Brief introduction and main application of Silicochromium alloy


More than 90% Silicochromium alloy is used as reducing agent in melting medium carbon ferrochromium, low-carbon ferrochromium and micro-carbon ferrochrome in electro-silicothermic process. In addition, Silicochromium alloy can also be used as deoxidier and alloying agent In steelmaking. With the development of oxygen steelmaking, it has been increasingly wide applied to deoxidizing out chrome in steel slag and in additional part with silicon chromium alloy

Chromium silicide is more stable than carbide, so when silicon content in Fe - Cr - Si alloy is increasing, carbon content decline.

Smelting process

There are two kinds of methods in smelting Silicochromium---one-step method and two-step method. One-step method is also called slag method, two-step method is also called no-slag method. One-step is smelting Silicochromium by putting chrome ore, silica and coke into one furnace. The first step of two-step method is to putting chrome ore and coke into the first furnace to produce high carbon ferrochrome, and in second step to put the crushed high carbon ferrochrome, silica, coke together into another furnace. At present, in china industrial production, mostly use the two-step method to smelt silicochromium alloy.
